Swiatek wins her first title of season, Shelton defends Canadian Open + Cincinnati Preview!

    15.08.2026 | 1 godz. 5 min.
Iga Swiatek is BACK! The former World No.1 ends her title drought in style, defeating Elena Rybakina in the Canada Masters final to claim her first WTA 1000 title of the season — and having a few things to say to her critics along the way. Join Joel and Chris at Tennis Weekly HQ as we debate whether Iga is back to being a genuine US Open contender, just how close she is to “completing tennis” with only three big titles and an Olympic gold left, and the very important matter of her photoshoot with Elway, the Canadian Open head groundsman’s dog.

Over in Montreal, Ben Shelton does it again. Is he a genuine US Open contender and a first American male winner since Andy Roddick or has he simply been the biggest beneficiary of Alcaraz and Sinner’s absence and injury uncertainty? Plus, Jack Draper’s comeback takes another painful turn, Djokovic returns in peak physical health, and we make our Cincinnati predictions as the final Masters 1000 before the US Open gets underway. And, of course, Serena and Venus Williams have reunited for doubles after the chaos of their cancelled Wimbledon return.

Sincaraz out of Cincinnati, Sabalenka's struggles continue + Swiatek back on track?

    10.08.2026 | 1 godz. 5 min.
Chaos in Canada! We’re at the halfway stage of the Canada Masters and, despite the lack of star power, it’s already thrown up plenty of unexpected stories. On the women’s side, we discuss Aryna Sabalenka’s latest three-set defeat and ask just how worrying her form is heading into the US Open. Is the pressure starting to get to the world No.1, who hasn’t won a title since Miami and is now clinging to the top spot by a thread? There’s also a resurgent Iga Swiatek and we get very excited about the first-ever meeting between Naomi Osaka and Elena Rybakina — genuinely, how has it taken this long?

On the men’s side, we discuss Jack Draper’s emotional return to the tour and the awkward question of whether he came back too soon. And after all the talk of a ‘new’ Zverev, can we really put him in the same conversation as Sinner and Alcaraz after losing his first match back since Wimbledon? Speaking of Sinner and Alcaraz, we look at their injury troubles ahead of Cincinnati, ask whether two-week Masters events should be mandatory combined events given how barren the schedules have been in Toronto and Montreal, and get stuck into Novak Djokovic’s radical idea for changing the scoring system.

Alex Eala becomes first Filipino to win a tour level title, Fritz wins biggest title since 2022

    03.08.2026 | 1 godz. 9 min.
What a week it has been for Alexandra Eala! Join Joel, Kim and Chris at Tennis Weekly HQ as they react to the Filipina making yet more history by becoming the first player from her country to win a WTA Tour singles title after storming back to defeat (and final set bagel!) Jessica Pegula in Washington after a Sunday washout. Has Eala officially announced herself as a genuine US Open contender, or are there still question marks over whether her serve can hold up at the very highest level?

Elsewhere, we celebrate 16-year-old Kristina Liutova becoming the youngest WTA champion since Coco Gauff in 2019, while Arthur Gea continued a very successful last few weeks for Frenchmen on the ATP Tour with the title in Los Cabos. We also tackle the publication of the full ITIA report into Markéta Vondroušová's four-year suspension, debate whether players who retire in qualifying (ahem Bernard Tomic) should still be eligible as lucky losers, and make our predictions as the Canada Masters gets underway with Alexander Zverev and Aryna Sabalenka leading the draws.

Djokovic + Sabalenka for US Open Mixed Doubles, Canadian Open withdrawals + Olympics update!

    27.07.2026 | 1 godz. 3 min.
'DJOKALENKA' is officially happening... but will everyone else actually turn up? Join Joel, Kim and Chris at Tennis Weekly HQ as they react to the star-studded US Open Mixed Doubles field, wonder why the Williams sisters are nowhere to be seen, and debate whether Jannik Sinner's absence is part of the wider player unrest over Grand Slam prize money. And with Roland Garros now open to a revenue-sharing model, is prize money at Grand Slams finally reaching a turning point?

Elsewhere, we celebrate 18-year-old Lilli Tagger storms to her maiden WTA title in Prague and ask whether a single handed backhand still has a role to play at the very top of the women’s game. t was also a great week to be a Frenchman with Quentin Halys' emotional first ATP title after 14 years, and Luca Van Assche's long-awaited return to the winner's circle. Plus, we tackle the Canadian Open's withdrawal crisis - can anything be done to stop top players skipping it?, discuss the eyebrow-raising decision to start the LA 2028 Olympic tennis event just three (!) days after Wimbledon ends and will it make players choose between one or the other, and look forward to Jack Draper's return with coach Andy Murray back in his corner.

Carlos comeback is confirmed as he celebrates World Cup win + titles for Rublev and Tsitsipas!

    20.07.2026 | 1 godz. 10 min.
Title droughts no more for Andrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas! Join Joel, Kim and Chris back at Tennis Weekly HQ for their first tour catch-up since Wimbledon, with Chris returning from Bastad (bucket hat and all!) to tell us what went on behind the scenes including Sweden's answer to Wimbledon's famous Dog & Fox pub.
On court, we debate whether Rublev and Tsitsipas' long-awaited titles are the start of genuine revivals or simply a false dawn. Were we ever worried Tsitsipas might never win another ATP title? Has splitting with his father as coach already proved to be the right decision?

We also celebrate yet another Czech success story on the WTA Tour this year as Barbora Krejcikova claims her first singles title since becoming Wimbledon champion, discuss whether Carlos Alcaraz is making the right call by targeting Cincinnati for his comeback, and ask what version of the Spaniard we should expect to see. Plus, Damir Dzumhur had plenty to say after another electronic line-calling controversy in Umag (and, whisper it... we might actually agree with him!), we question whether Grand Slams should channel the World Cup and introduce third-place play-offs, and look ahead to another busy week on the ATP and WTA Tours including action from Kitzbuhel, Estoril and Prague.
