MRI Remote Scanning: The NHS Approach

    28.05.2026 | 52 min.
    “𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐌𝐑𝐈 𝐢𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞” ⚠️
That’s what many people said a few years ago.
    Some still do.
But while critics debate it on LinkedIn, several private hospitals and public institutions around the world, like NHS England, are already using remote scanning successfully in real clinical environments on a day-to-day basis.
That’s because remote operations were never about cutting corners.
They are about solving real problems: staffing shortages, burnout, workflow pressure, access to expertise, and safer support for both patients and radiographers.
In this podcast episode, we sit down with Philip Gregory, practice educator at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, to talk openly about where remote MRI actually stands today in the UK.
We discussed why departments adopting remote operations are seeing:
    - Greater operational flexibility
    - Better staff support
    - Improved resilience across sites
    - Safer escalation pathways and operations
    - More sustainable MRI services
What’s fascinating is that some of the strongest critics of remote scanning have completely changed their position after seeing it work in practice.
    The conversation has moved
    from:
“Will this ever happen?” "I don't think this is the way to go in terms of safety"
    to:
“How do we implement it properly?” "How can I get a free pilot?"
Remote MRI is here to stay.
The departments embracing it early will shape the future of imaging.
If your department wants to explore remote MRI operations through a free pilot, comment below - "𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐭"

MRI Simulation: See, Touch, Feel, Play!

    21.04.2026 | 46 min.
    𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐑𝐈 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐲!
    Dear MRI Community,

In this episode of The 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐑𝐈 𝐩𝐨𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭, we are joined by Jake Rahman, Managing Director and Owner of SimulationMan, to explore why 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 is the secret sauce for 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. Drawing on his extensive experience in the field, Jake explains how humans actually learn complex tasks and dives into his philosophy of "𝐒𝐞𝐞, 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡, 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐥, 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫".
Because radiographers and other healthcare professionals cannot exactly "play" around with a high field MR scanner, particularly while a patient is inside, simulation bridges the gap and removes the anxiety of 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬.
We also discuss the SimulationCollective and how departments can 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐌𝐑𝐈 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 without needing a million-dollar setup!

    𝐃𝐈𝐃 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖?!
Our brand-new 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐑𝐈 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐲 is now 𝐋𝐈𝐕𝐄, with courses covering from foundational and cardiac MRI to veterinary and remote MRI scanning.

MRI Leadership: The complexities of leading MRI teams

    12.02.2026 | 48 min.
    𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞, 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐬!

In this episode of the 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐑𝐈 𝐩𝐨𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭, we are joined by Vitor Silva, PhD, Radiographer and Supervisor at the MRI Department of ULS São João in Porto, Portugal, to explore the often overlooked but critical challenge of 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐑𝐈 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩.

Although technical expertise and safety are the pillars of our profession, 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 is the glue that holds a successful department together.

In this conversation, we try to move beyond clinical MR protocols to focus on the 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 of MRI: managing diverse teams, optimising departmental workflow, and the transition from clinical practitioners to team leaders.
Thanks to his background, which in some ways bridges advanced academic research and hands-on clinical supervision, Vitor helps us understand how to navigate the complexities of modern MR environments and how to promote a 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 within the control room.
If you have past experiences about stepping into leadership roles, managing team dynamics, or the challenges of supervision, feel free to share them in the comments and be part of the conversation!

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐃𝐨 𝐖𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 & 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐌𝐑𝐈 𝐏𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐬?
    Dear MRI Community,

In this episode of The 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐑𝐈 𝐩𝐨𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭, we are joined by Professor Martin Graves, Professor of Magnetic Resonance Physics at University of Cambridge, in the UK, to explore how 𝐌𝐑𝐈 𝐩𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐬 can be taught and learned in a way that is meaningful, accessible, and clinically relevant.
MRI physics is often seen as one of the most challenging aspects of MRI education, yet 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 to safe MRI practice, image optimisation, and technological progress.

In this conversation, we move beyond formulas and focus on educational strategies, learning pathways, and practical resources that genuinely support 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬.

With years of experience in MRI education and as one of the contributors to the well-known textbook 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐧, Prof. Graves shares practical insights that will resonate with students, educators, and experienced MRI practitioners alike.
