- What does suffering have to do with spreading the faith?
In this special episode, Catholic Manhood co-host and producer John Osterhoudt delivers a live presentation given at the John Paul II Institute at the University of St. Thomas in Houston on the role of suffering in the New Evangelization.
John makes the case that the modern world’s greatest obstacle to faith isn’t hostility; it’s apathy. A culture that has lost confidence in objective truth and numbs itself with distraction cannot be argued into belief. It has to be shown something real.
That something is joy. Not the shallow kind. The kind that comes through the cross.

10.09.2026 | 49 min.Welcome to the first Catholic Manhood Round Table. Our format for two guys sitting down to talk plainly about what’s happening in the Church and the world.
In the round table debut, Nick Sledge (Founder) and John Osterhoudt (Producer) introduce themselves, explain what Catholic Manhood is about, and dig into a question that every serious Catholic with a smartphone should be asking: has the internet been good or bad for the Church?
They discuss the rise of very-online Catholicism, the difference between apologetics and formation, why winning arguments online is not the same as making disciples, and what Catholic Manhood’s approach to digital evangelization actually looks like. It’s a candid conversation between two men who care about the faith and want to do something useful with it.

What does it actually mean to be in the world but not of it? In this meditation, Nick walks through the Letter to Diognetus, a second-century document written to a pagan who wanted to understand what Christians were made of. The portrait it paints is of men fully present in the world and made of completely different material. Citizens who were also aliens. Men whose lives required an explanation.
The question it puts to every Catholic man: Does your life require an explanation?

How much of a grace is it to count another human being as one of your companions in life? VIRTUOUS FRIENDSHIP! This is not to take away value from family members or spousal relationships. However my main focus is to consider what virtuous friendship truly is; what it looks like in theory and in practice. To go in depth, we will tap the intellect of Aristotle and St. Thomas Aquinas about the subject, thoughts on different kinds of friendship and how they fit in with being a virtuous, Catholic man.

O Catholic Manhood
There is need for a crusade of manliness and purity to counteract and undo the savage work of those who think that man is a beast. And that crusade is a matter for you. catholicmanhood.substack.com
