Welcome to Slow English Daily, the podcast where you learn English by listening to slow, clear and simple spoken English. This is episode eighteen, and today we talk about the future in English.
What is the difference between "will" and "going to"? In this episode you will learn the easy rule: "going to" is for plans, and "will" is for quick decisions, promises and guesses. You will also learn future time words, how to ask about someone's weekend, and how to talk about your hopes and dreams in simple English.
Key phrases from this episode: I'm going to visit my mother on Sunday. What are you going to do this weekend? I'll close the window. I'll call you later. I don't think he'll come. I hope you have a nice weekend. I'd like to travel to Japan one day.
This is English listening practice for A2 learners. Easy words, short sentences, spoken slowly. New episodes every week.Giving Opinions in English | How to Agree, Disagree Politely and Join a Conversation | Slow English Podcast for Beginners A2-B1

How to give your opinion in English, and how to agree and disagree politely. Explained slowly and simply for beginners.
Welcome back to Slow English Daily, the English learning podcast for people who can read English but freeze when somebody speaks it. In this episode your host Robin covers discussion English and conversation skills.
Many learners have plenty of opinions, but only in their head. Somebody asks "what do you think?" and the answer is "yes, it's good" or "I don't know." Not because there is no opinion, but because there are no small words to start the sentence. And slowly, people stop asking. This episode gives you those small words.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN THIS EPISODE
How to start an opinion. I think, in my opinion, personally, to be honest, and why a small opening gives your brain the two seconds it needs.
How to add a reason. One opinion, one "because", and why one clear reason is stronger than three weak ones. Plus how to add an example with "for example" and "like when".
How to agree warmly. Exactly, I totally agree, that's so true, that's exactly what I was thinking, and the "agree, then add" technique that turns agreement into participation.
How to disagree politely. Why a direct "no, you're wrong" can sound aggressive in English, and the cushion phrases that fix it: I see what you mean, but... That's a good point, but... I'm not so sure about that. Plus the hidden meaning of "hmm, I don't know".
Strong opinions and no opinion. I completely disagree, I strongly believe, and when to save them. Plus what to say when you really don't know: I've never really thought about it, I can see both sides, what do you think?
Sensitive topics. Politics, religion and money, and how to discuss them respectfully.
Joining a group conversation. The hardest situation for any learner. Can I just say something? Sorry, just quickly. Going back to what Sarah said. And how to handle interruptions: sorry, can I just finish?
FOUR KEY PHRASES FROM THIS EPISODE
Personally, I think...
That's exactly what I was thinking.
I see what you mean, but...
Can I just say something?

Welcome to Slow English Daily, the podcast where you learn English by listening to slow, clear and simple spoken English. This is episode sixteen, and today we talk about telling a story in English.
Nobody becomes your friend because you can order coffee. People become your friends when you tell them a story and they laugh. In this episode you will learn the ten past verbs that cover almost any story about your life, how to open a story, the "I was doing something when..." structure that is the engine of spoken English, the connecting words that hold a story together, how to end cleanly, and how to react like a native speaker when somebody tells you a story.
Key phrases from this episode: You'll never guess what happened. I was waiting for the train when... So, then, suddenly, anyway, in the end. It turned out... And that was it, really. No way. What happened then?

Key phrases from this episode: He's the one in the green jacket. She's got long curly hair. She's in her early thirties. He's very easy-going. He can be a bit difficult sometimes. That colour really suits you. She's really easy to talk to.

You will learn how to choose the right greeting, what to write in your first sentence (and why "How are you?" is the wrong opening for a work email), how to make a request politely, how to follow up when nobody answers, how to say no and how to complain in writing, how to finish an email, and how casual WhatsApp messages are different.
