Health insurance companies make more money when your premiums go up, and Andy Schoonover built a 36,000-member alternative to prove you don’t need them.

Andy Schoonover founded CrowdHealth, and his path started with a denied claim for his young daughter’s ear procedure. The bill was $8,000 for 15 minutes of work. This blind man with no eyes can identify a card lying face down under a box.

My guests are Dr. Edith Ubuntu Chan, a Chinese medicine doctor who leads blindfold training for kids and adults; Dalia Burgoin, who teaches mindsight to sighted and blind students; and her student Shaun Jordan.

Shaun lost his sight at 4 and had his eyes replaced with prostheses at 13. He started training last October. In a double-blind study, he scored 100% across six trials of random shapes and letters, leaving the researchers in tears.

What struck me most was the first time he perceived his wife, less than a month in. She stood by a hospital window after his surgery, and he saw a split second of perfect detail. If he never sees anything that clear again, he’s content.

As Dalia puts it, you’re not learning that you can. You’re unlearning that you can’t.

Dr. Edith and Dalia credit Dalia’s daughter Lidu, a teen telepath, as the real teacher behind their work. When Dalia’s husband tested her, she started spelling the fruit he was thinking of, and he asked how to turn it off. Her answers about God, love, and the Hill are worth hearing twice.

Kyle is a Wisconsin community herbalist, clinician, and the founder of Tippecanoe Herbs, Root Radical Herbal Academy, and the Resonature Podcast, teaching plant medicine from a vitalist, qualitative lens.
