Adam Gidwitz is joined by Sana Alimohamed to tell this fairy tale based on Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves from the 1001 Arabian Nights. When Qasim doesn’t come home, Marjana gets worried and decides to go looking for him. On a cold, dark night, she travels to a secret cave hidden behind a giant rock and says the special words to open it. Inside, she finds a shocking surprise that tells her something very bad has happened. We’ll pause the story here, at this suspenseful moment, before finding out what Marjana will do next.
